More openings and additions to the dckayaking map

Looking downstream at the Frederick Douglas Bridge from a kayak on the Anacostia River on a partly sunny day.

The first weekend of May welcomes two more kayak rental locations for the season. Also, new locations are now on the map.

The District

Ballpark Boathouse is opening before Memorial Day weekend for the first time ever. Located across the street from Nationals Park, this Boating in DC location is one of my favorites. Here, the Anacostia River is wide and generally not crowded. The views include the new Frederick Douglas Bridge, along with ballpark adjacent development, Navy Yard and Anacostia Park.

If you remember the late 20th century, it’s an incredible transformation. In short, this isn’t my father’s Navy Yard.

All DC-based kayak rental locations will be open for the season.

Maryland

At National Harbor, REI’s kayak rentals are open for the weekends through May 18 and probably most others after that. This location near the Wilson Bridge is on the where the river widens considerably. Prices are lower than last year too.

New Locations

Two more rental locations have been added to the map.

Patuxent Riverkeeper has all day rentals south of Upper Marlboro.

Annapolis-based CapitalSUP just announced a new location,The Point at Mill Creek, north of Maryland’s capital in Arnold. It’s so new their web site doesn’t even have a page for it.

After a week of summer like weather, welp at least you won’t have to worry about sunscreen…
