District Wharf Boathouse

Washington, D.C. S.W.

WEB SITE: Boating in DC

2023 SEASON: Open daily through August 18, rest of the season TBD

Online reservations required

Opening concurrent with the first phase of the Wharf, this Boating in DC boathouse is perhaps the most bustling location. Paddlers kayak through Washington Channel and its busy marina. Downstream, as the channel widens and development wanes. It’s a quieter scene with East Potomac Park on the west and Fort McNair on the east. If the season starts early enough, great cherry blossom views are seen.

Weather permitting, the Wharf operates a jitney between East Potomac Park and the Recreation Pier, Friday – Sunday 12 p.m. – 6 p.m. That’s an easy way to get there with free parking. Of course, bicycling or mass transit work well for that too.

No location provides more additional activities as well with plenty of places to eat and drink. It gets crowded sometimes, on and off the water.

Getting there

🚲 – Anacostia River Trail
🚇 – Waterfront, L’enfant Plaza
🚌 – DC Circulator, A9
