Washington, D.C. S.E.
2023 SEASON: Open Thursday – Sunday, 12 p.m. – 6 p.m.
Additional days: July 3-4, Labor Day
WEB SITE: Boating in DC
Just a block away from Nationals Park, Boating in DC’s Ballpark Boathouse is the District’s only location to rent a kayak along the Anacostia River. The river is fairly wide compared to elsewhere and it tends not to be as crowded. The new Frederick Douglas Bridge marks the downstream boundary, while the John Phillip Sousa Bridge is the upstream limit. At low tide, it can get a little shallow in parts.
Paddlers take in views of the Nationals Park, Near Southeast developments, Washington Navy Yard and Anacostia Park.
On shore, the offers are numerous, so making kayaking part of a whole day is easy whether you attend a Nats game or stop by the Yards Park splash area.
Ballpark Boathouse tends to have a more limited season than other boathouses, usually between Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends.
