Another chapter in Dave Shenin’s Stephen Strasburg book

Dave Shenin wrote another excellent story on Stephen Strasburg in yesterday’s Post. Strasburg tore his UCL just as he was starting to find his way amongst his teammates. The reserved right-hander seemingly moves cautiously and deliberately in all aspects of his life and the clubhouse was no exception. It took a few months, but he was feeling like he belonged.

On that fateful night in Philadelphia — it had to be Philadelphia, right? — Strasburg was pitching well when his UCL tore. I had turned on the television maybe 90 seconds prior to his last pitch. My wife came into the room after putting our son to bed and I told her that Strasburg had just thrown his last pitch for a long time.

I am pretty sure Shenin is writing a book on the Strasburg experience. The injury and Tommy John surgery have certainly changed the book, I have to think it will be delayed until at least the end of Strasburg’s rehab, instead of coming out before next season.

Lastly, Nationals Enquirer has a theory — a little old lady in Syracuse caused the injury. Hmmm.
