Season sweep denied

Armas Falters, Stanton RisesThe Post
The Nats could not complete a season sweep of the Giants yesterday in San Francisco. Tony Armas Jr. pitched like — Tony Armas, Jr. giving up six runs in 3 2/3’s innings.
Frank Robinson:

If I could fix him, I wouldn’t be sitting here. Believe me, I’d be sitting on an island somewhere, with a nice drink in my hands, and relaxing — with my own private jet. When there was a Tony Armas around, I’d fly in and fix him and go back to my island.

Ha! It’s funny, but not necessarily something a manager should be saying. Then again, Armas has been around the block for a while. I am just glad Robinson didn’t say it about some rookie.

And really, this is Tony Armas we are talking about Frank, fixing him is hardly worthy of a private jet.

Mike Stanton of all people got the save for the Giants yesterday. Alfonso Soriano had two more homers and Nick Johnson added one too. Final score: 6-8
