The NFL Lockout And Taking Sides In The League’s Labor Dispute – SB Nation
Spencer Hall pretty much sums up how I feel about the NFL labor dispute and pending lockout — very little. Now granted, the NFL and the Redskins are at best my fourth favorite league and team, respectively. I have not scheduled my autumn Sundays around the NFL since I was a freshmen in college. I don’t gamble, so I won’t miss that action either.
I don’t have much sympathy for the players who shun protective equipment (like hip pads, thigh pads and knee pads), hit with their heads and whine about fines for doing so, despite growing evidence that being in the NFL is really, really bad for you, your cranium and all that resides in it. On the other hand, I have no sympathy for the owners who are in a business where it is almost impossible not to make double-digit margins much less lose money.
I got through the previous NFL labor troubles, the NHL lockout and not having MLB in town until my late 20s. I don’t care enough about the NBA to be worried about a strike/lockout there. I would miss MLB and the NHL more than the NFL. Thankfully, Penn State, will doesn’t have lockouts/strikes or threats of moving. That is a small part of why I like the alma mater above all others.
I hope it gets resolved and the sooner the better, just because I don’t want to hear about it anymore.
