Outback media day recap

Penn State had its Outback Bowl Media Day on Friday. There is not an actual transcript available online, but quotes from players have been posted by Intercollegiate Athletics. Fight On State noted that several player had “their playoff beards going.”

Items of particular interest include OLB Dan Connor being indecisive about returning (AP/Patriot-News) for his senior season (I think he will) and QB Anthony Morelli responding to criticism about his season. While he may have better numbers than Kerry Collins and Todd Blackledge did in their junior seasons, he did not post a good game against strong competition, so this comes off as whiny to me. More interesting than that is that revelation that Morelli’s high school coach was completely unsupportive of efforts to obtain a scholarship (Patriot-News) for the young signalcaller (Post-Gazette). That coach is apparently the source of the “Morelli is dumb” rumors that we have been hearing for three years.

Also, the Outback Bowl Game Notes (PDF) are now available. No word on what color jersey the Nittany Lions will be wearing, but since the Big11Ten is the home team this year, I assume we’ll see the blues. Also, good news on the announcing front, Todd Blackledge will be doing the color commentary.
