Nats: 5 days in, spring training is still fun

Pitchers and catchers reported 5 days ago and the Washington Nationals have a full camp and I am not bored with the coverage yet.

The “story” right now seems to be Ryan Zimmerman’s contract situation. Thomas Boswell wrote a rather desperate column urging the Lerner family to pony up with a new contract for Zimmerman (The Post) by the end of the week. Official work outs start Saturday and Zimmerman doesn’t want to deal with contract negotiations after that point. Zimmerman still has 2 seasons left on his current contract, which by the was agreed to on Opening Day 2009, if I recall correctly. Try to not let this bother you…

Oh and Bos, trolling the media (DC Sports Bog, The Post) doesn’t do you much good, just ask Ted Leonsis!

Bryce Harper is using “you know” almost as much as Stephen Strasburg does. Clearly, he’s ready for the show…

Davey Johnson is saying there is more talent on the Nats right now than there was when he took over the New York Mets in 1984. Two years later, they won 108 games and the World Series. They later won the NL East in 1988. However, that was it for those teams and I thought they underachieved. I want some reporters down there to ask Johnson why they didn’t win more. I think I know the answer:

Why the Mets only won one world series in the 1980s

I want to find out what Johnson says is the reason, what he learned from that experience and what he’s telling this team about it.

Time to claim my cheesesteak for the Nats winning last year’s season series with the Phillies…
