WASHINGTON, D.C. — Despite the score, it was fun evening in Chinatown. The happy hour at Gordon Biersch was packed as were the stands in the visitors section. Georgetown did not fill up their student section and there was probably only 5,000 actually at the game.
If you take away the first eight minutes, PSU won 53 – 49. Sadly, we had to include the first eight when the Hoyas went up 17 – 0. After that, Coach Ed DeChillis got them to calm down and play like it was 0 – 0. Hey, he was half right! Here are some personal highlights:
- Pregame happy hour at Gordon Bierch
- Getting within three with about 10 minutes to play
- Being offered a beer from my old academic advisor (based on this morning, it is just as well they closed the taps by then)
- Chanting, “what’s a Hoya?” I still don’t know.
- Drowning out the Georgetown crowd with “We are…Penn State.” The Post and Dave Jones made refrences to it
- Seeing Georgetown with a smaller crowd than I ever saw at PSU
- Wearing one of my PSU basketball jerseys
- Selling one of my PSU basketball jerseys
- Seeing more Nationals stuff on sale at the MCI Center Modells
All in all, a great time. Here are some write-ups of the game.
