New I-295 South Ramp Reduces Cutting Through Town – WUSA TV 9
While I was down the Shore, a new ramp from DC 295 southbound (Anacostia Freeway) opened to the newly posted ramp to the 11th Street Bridge and Southeast Freeway. Saturday evening, I drove on it for the first time and while it is a winding ramp, having a true freeway-to-freeway connection through the District is a pleasant development. It was particularly pleasant since my previous method from getting to DC 295 to I-395 south was via South Capitol Street and a Washington Nationals game was about to start. Traffic ran smooth for me.
Interstate 695 signs are posted from DC 295 now, though a cardinal direction is not included. The signs also say “TO I-395” with Capitol Hill as the control city. Once off the 11th Street Bridge though, the I-695 signs disappear.
The long-overdue direct connection between the SE Freeway and DC 295 northbound is expected to open before the end of the year. I’m really eager for that one.
