WASHINGTON, D.C. The Washington Nationals continued their rebound from a terrible road trip with another eight run outburst last night. The visiting St. Louis Cardinals could only muster a mere unearned run as the Nats cruised to a 8-1 win.
Edwin Jackson had 10 strikeouts over 8 innings, most of them in the first three innings. Jackson got more efficient as the game progressed.
CF Bryce Harper won the game in the first with a two run line drive/laser beam home run to the right field bullpen, driving in Jayson Werth, who walked. Harper later came within 3 feet of a second consecutive two-homer night. Harper also made a running, over the shoulder catch. 19 year old legs have a way of overcoming bad reads. Thomas Boswell probably gives Harper too much credit though (The Post).
With a full moon (or awfully close to it) rising over the 1st base stands, the “werewerth” came out — Werth hit his first home run since returning from his broken wrist.
Only 23,000+ in the ballpark last night. The convention must have taken some of the eyeballs away.
STRASBURG SHUTDOWN
2 or 3 more starts for Stephen Strasburg (CSN Washington), meaning Sunday’s game may be his last D.C. appearance.
