Last night American hero and Long Island native John Lannan won his third consecutive start to open his MLB season (a team record) and helped the Washington Nationals shutout and sweep the New York Mets in Queens.
Sean Burnett on John Lannan: “If you’re not pulling for him, you’re not human.”

I find myself nodding in agreement with Burnett there. Lannan was expected to be the #5 starter, but found himself as a $5 million AAA pitcher instead. He’s made the most of his MLB time this season though, winning his first 3 starts. His outing last night was typical, lots of groundball outs, some trouble, but overall solid.

The bullpen held on and solo home runs by Ryan Zimmerman and Ian Desmond were all the scoring the Nats managed. Mets rookie Matt Harvey dominiated the Nats, striking them out 10 times in five innings. The Nats still found a way to win.
