The Nats had another intrasquad scrimmage (Florida Today) yesterday. CF Nook Logan went yard (who’d of thunk?) and Cristian Guzman is looking good so far.
Perhaps it is just me, but when two pitchers are each trying to earn one of four spots I don’t think you can frame as a battle between the two of them (The Post). If there was just one spot, sure, but with four?
The bullpen figures to be a strength again (it’ll need to be) with Luis Ayala returning from ligament replacement surgery (The Wash. Times). Journeyman RHP Jason Simontacchi pitched well in relief yesterday (The Wash. Times), but may get a shot at starting next time around.
Former #1 pitching prospect Mike Hinckley is healthy and has a clean slate (The Post) with manager Manny Acta. Also, Ryan Zimmerman is expected to sign a contract extension before a March 11 CBA deadline.
