ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Ever since the crushing storms of 2009-2010, Snowpocalypse and Snowmageddon BeltwayLand has been in a snow drought. Other than a nasty p.m. rush storm in 2011, we’ve had nothing significant. Despite lots of meteorological hype this week for Snowquester, the trend has continued. It may have snowed all day yesterday, but it never got cold enough to build a significant snowpack in my Alexandria neighborhood. I was going to measure the snow every few hours, but it would have been the same reading every time. Further west snow was heavier, but overall this storm brought white mud from the sky. I understand those in the District proper did not even get a thin blanket of snow, so no Dupont Circle snowball fight (NBC Washington).
How much did it really snow? – The Post
Despite the applesauce like conditions, there was enough to build a snowman and get in some sledding.
@thetysonscorner Enough with your “science” and “facts.” My kids being robbed of their prime sledding yrs. #metoo #lamesnow

My 4½ year old hadn’t been sledding in three years, but enjoyed our brief time going down the tiny hills near our condo. A given patch of hill was only good for 2-3 runs before being exhausted of its slurpee like conditions. The point about “kids being robbed of their prime sledding yrs.” is well-taken. When I was kid, snow was a regular occurrence. Granted I lived on the fringes of the urban heat island which is more intense inside-the-Beltway, but snow was a normal part of winter. I feel bad for my son missing out.

Snowquester: when forecast information fails – Capital Weather Gang, The Post
Given the problems with the modeling as well as the more intuitive reasons to be skeptical of snow prospects, the most critical error we and every single forecaster in this region made was the failure to communicate the uncertainty in the forecast.
