SAN DIEGO 7 Washington 3 (ESPN Boxscore)
OF Chris Snelling has been traded (The Post) to Oakland (The Wash. Times) for OF Ryan Langerhans. Snelling had been acquired from Seattle in the Jose Vidro trade. Langerhans had been an A for less than a week, having been traded from Atlanta. GM Jim Bowden wanted Langerhans for his defense.
On the diamond, San Diego County native Matt Chico was chased from the game (The Wash. Times) after just a 3 2/3 (The Post). His first three innings had been scoreless too. 1B Nick Johnson began hitting off a tee (The Post) though, so his return and the inevitable injury watch may begin sooner than we expected.
The Opening Day lineup (The Post), which lasted several innings, may appear again soon with CF Nook Logan and SS Cristian Guzman nearly back from injuries.
The Nats still can’t hit (The Wash. Times).
The other big news yesterday was the four part series by Fox Sports columnist Ken Rosenthal called National Crisis. If Rosenthal is to believed some of our fears about the Nationals are true, such as:
Ownership has a large learning curve
Ownership is cheap
Nobody knows why Jim Bowden has a job
Nobody knows what they are doing
Speaking of Bowden, he has a column in today’s Wash. Examiner. It looks like he is talking about the draft.
Let me also add that I am on board with MASN hiring MissChatter as a dugout reporter. I’d even listen to their commercials again. I would totally hold over someone’s head that I know a sideline reporter too.
