Nats miscues plentiful in loss; no TV today

Colorado 3 WASHINGTON 1 (CBS Sportsline Boxscore)

Ryan Zimmerman made a costly baserunning mistake and the Nats had three errors in last night’s loss. At least there was a decent turnout (for this season anyway) with 27,000 fans in attendance. Sounds like they saw a pretty craptacular game.

There are three notable injuries right now:

  • 1B Dimitri Young was out with a bruised heal last night. GM Jim Bowden said if the Nats were in a playoff race he would play because it is just that minor.
  • P Jason Simontacchi is on the DL retroactive to whenever he missed his start. Tendonitis is the culprit.
  • OF Alex Escobar won’t be coming up to the big leagues just yet because his shoulder is hurting him. And birds go tweat.
  • At least Shawn Hill experienced no problems throwing 40 pitches in a recent session.

More from The Wash. Times: Young down, but not out of town yet

That Post article also noted that scouting director Dana Brown and special assistant to the GM Chuck LaMar were in Binghamton last night scouting RHP Kevin Mulvey (8-8, 3.12 ERA).

Thom Loverro wishes there were spontaneous fan clubs for Nats players (The Wash. Times) like the Coneheads (David Cone) and Older Women for Omar (Omar Vizquel). He suggests The Meat Locker for Dimitri Young. Let’s see what happens ten days from now before we go creating that one. Also, T(h)om — it’d Da Meatlocker. Duh.

There is also an article about autograph seekers (The Wash. Times).

The Nats will not be televised (The Wash. Times) for the first time all year when they take the field at 3:55 this afternoon. They were scheduled to be on Rupert Murdoch’s FOX network, but got bumped for San Francisco at Milwaukee. Keeping the the Nats off TV is just another reason why Murdoch is a poor choice as owner of the Wall Street Journal.

I’ll be at the game with my family — we’re taking my dad to celebrate his birthday.
