A narrow victory for the DodgersThe L.A. Times

Barry Svrluga‘s gamer suggested Wily Mo Peña was Kirk Gibson-esque with his 2nd inning home run. Peña had fouled a pitch off his foot and limped around the bases. Oddly enough, L.A.’s paper of record made no mention of Gibson (though a Dodgers blog on latimes.com did) and The Wash. Times skipped a gamer altogether.

Mike Bacsik blew a 4-2 lead in the sixth by giving up three runs. At least Ryan Zimmerman (22) and Dmitri Young (13) homered. 2B Felipe Lopez contributed to the loss when he had trouble fielding a Jeff Kent line drive in the pivotal inning.

Jason Bergmann is back (The Post) to try and reclaim his early season, pre-injuries form (The Wash. Times). He grew a rally beard too.

Phil Wood doesn’t have a good feeling about 2008.

Can you believe that the Dodgers left Brooklyn 50 years ago this fall?
