ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The second measurable storm of the 2017-2018 winter is finishing up and I just measured 1 inch of snow here in the West End, aka 22304 or Snow Zone 9.
Schools are closed across the region with delays being announced earlier yesterday:
It’s the new year and we can’t let anyone else get a jump on us.

and yet…
Fauquier County Public Schools will operate on a two-hour delay both Thursday, January 4, and Friday, January 5. Offices will open on time.

I’m shook. Get to work on the 2 hour delay IPA, Powers Farm Brewing!
Back inside the Betlway
Our crews are out on the roads (and have been all night). Most primary routes are clear at this point. Most residential and intermediate and some secondary roads remain snow covered. Info on road categories and more is at: https://t.co/utu5YXlPJR

Please also be sure to clear your car completely. Snow from other parts of your car blowing off can make it hard for others to see you and re-cover parts that you cleared. https://t.co/JpqoXM2ya3

Frankly, all those snowvinists from other places have a point today — a two-hour delay is reasonable, but closed schools for this! As recently as January 30, 2017, 1¼ didn’t shut stuff down.
