Another ballpark media event; new meds; I still don’t have tickets

There was yet another media event at Nationals Park yesterday. The video board was presented and home plate was moved from RFK Stadium. MissChatter was there and has a flickr set and video. JD from Near Southeat DC Redevelopment was there too.

THOMAS BOSWELL – A Site To BeholdThe Post
Bos and the players are excited about Nationals Park. None quoted in the article spoke for RFK, instead deriding it for its rodents, cockroaches and deep fences.
Nats’ Food Will Tag More Home BasesThe Post
On paper, the food situation at Nationals Park should be quite good. Here is list of locally/regionally based vendors the park will have:

  • Ben’s Chili Bowl
  • Red, Hot & Blue
  • Boardwalk Fries
  • Gifford’s
  • Cantina Marina
  • Hard Times Cafe
  • La Piccola Gelateria
  • Mayorga Coffee
  • Noah’s Pretzels
  • Kosher Sports
  • Krazee Ice

I’m excited about Ben’s and Hard Times. Hopefully, this Hard Times location will offer more than one variety of chili, unlike the RFK location.

Gwaltney (which I have never had) will be the hot dog of record for the concessions while Hebrew National will be available in the suites. The concessionaire is Centerplate. There will also be curly W pretzels; hopefully they will look better than the prototype.

Shawn Hill doubtful for Nationals’ season openerFlorida Today
Shawn Hill got a second opinion on his ailing right forearm and will change his exercise routine and medication. He probably will not be ready for Opening Night though.

This video was produced before Hill got his second opinion:

For Young, Job Fight Least of His BattlesThe Post
1B Dmitri Young arrived in camp at 291 lbs, bigger than he should be as a baseball player and someone with diabetes. This has happened despite Young eating a healthier diet, so doctors changed his medication too. Da Meathook has missed five days with a strained side muscle.

Detwiler returns to minorsThe Wash. Times
Last year’s 1st round pick, Ross Detwiler is headed to the minors. There had been some buzz that he might make the major league bullpen out of camp.

Opening Day Tickets Go FastThe Post
Updated story on tickets. They sold out in six minutes. Some people think the Nats botched it. I think it was simply a very popular ticket. I’m still looking for some.
