AARON BLOWS IT AGAINNY Post
2B Felipe López has turned it on since returning to the starting lineup seven games ago. Last night, he hit the first grand slam in Nationals Park history as part of the Nats comeback from a 3-0 Mets lead. Washington also took advantage of sloppy Mets fielding to pad the lead.

Shawn Hill was not terribly effective in his second start of the year. He had early success with his sinker, but little command of his other pitches. Mike O’Connor, fresh from AAA-Columbus, earned the victory.

Lastings Milledge was benched for being late yesterday which probably prompted some blue and orange people to say “I told you so” but pinch hit in the sixth, drawing a crucial walk that loaded the bases for Lopez’s grand slam.

All of that salmon in the offseason did not helped the newly svelte Ray King; he has been demoted to AAA-Columbus. With the bullpen being out of whack with Chad Cordero not closing, King had to be more than a LOOGY and he was not up to the task. King would like to be traded, but he is considering retiring or reporting to Columbus within 72 hours.

O’Connor, brought up to take King’s spot in the bullpen, is expected to pitch in long relief, probably the position he can be most successful in. Last night he only pitched one inning, but got the win.

How funny is it that Mayor Adrian Fenty, who as a councilmember voted against the ballpark, is being accused of hogging the complimentary tickets that are supposed to be shared between the mayor office and the city council?
