2025 Metro station tally

An Metro train, wrapped in 2025 APTA Transit Agency of the Year livery, in Eastern Market station bound for New Carrollton

As is customary, I am posting my annual tally of every Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority station I entered, existed or transferred at for the previous year. This is a manually curated list. The dynamic WMATA-powered list, MetroRewind, was was already featured. This tally goes deeper.

WMATA was named the 2025 Transit Authority of the year by American Public Transportation Association.1 It was also the year of “Better Bus” implementation and I had feelings about that initiative. Mostly, I have a longer walk to “express” service to Pentagon now. At least more buses seem to have been added in the morning to the A28.

Forest Glen – I went to the least-used Red Line station for the first time ever.
Another first – Takoma station. I checked out the newly open section of the Metropolitan Branch Trail and then took Metro back to Alexandria.

* First time ever

I thought I’d get a couple of more, like West Hyattsville in particular. I was going to go up there to bike along the Sligo Creek Trail, but by coincidence, an Urban Adventures group ride went up that way. Capitol South was in play for the the Botanic Garden for the holiday trains, but that was overcome by events.

2025 MetroFest at Vienna station

I went to Metrofest again with my youngest son. This year’s was at Vienna2, my original Metro station. He may not be interested in going next year though, having gone twice the novelty has probably worn off. I may still go.

I made my second trip out to the end of the Silver Line and then rode my bike back to Alexandria.

As mentioned previously, I kept track of this for years before actually posting it. I found drafts of these lists in my email going as far back as 2014, the first year I became a daily Metro commuter.

I was in Philadelphia for Philly Bike Ride and found myself on the two “subways” up there. It was a little bit of transportation, a little of bit of foaming.

In 2026, there is another system or two I’d really like to revisit, we’ll see…

It was mostly a coincidence, but I rode on three different commuter railroads in consecutive weeks with my bicycle this past autumn.

I can hear VRE trains from my backyard, but rarely ride it since Metro bus and rail is more convenient to my part of Alexandria. MARC was a bit of whimsy, while this was the second time I used SEPTA commuter rail.

I am a regular Metrobus commuter since 2014. DASH comes in handy if I’m out after PM rush hour or need to go somewhere other than home after work.
