Jason Bergmann pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings before leaving in trouble. The bullpen kept the Brewers off the board then, but could not keep it up, giving up two runs in the seventh and one in the eighth and eleventh innings. The Nats attack included solo home runs by SS Cristian Guzman and 1B Dmitri Young (which was disputed initially) and a RBI double by C Jesús Flores that scored RF Elijah Dukes.
The Nats could have still pulled it off had they just had Ryan Zimmerman pinch hit in any inning after the 8th, nevermind the doctors’ orders to sit down. If you sit Mr. Walkoff on a national holiday at home, he can’t hit the game-winning home run.

Chad Cordero was able to play catch without incident. The closer will throw every other day as part of his rehabilitation.
THOMAS BOSWELL – By Chance, Opportunities – The Post
With so many injuries, players like Jon Rauch, Flores and Bergmann are getting chances to prove themselves. Rauch has done pretty well as a closer and Flores will be really hard to demote.
The Nats head to the West Coast this week – San Diego and Arizona, so the games will be on very late.
