THERE USED TO BE SOMETHING ABOUT HAZLETON

Last week, my employer was giving out pedometers to encourage walking. That’s great, I have wanted one since I lost the last one after all of one weekend of use. Maybe, I will have better luck this time.

Happily, I was able to walk over 10,000 steps almost everyday since I got the device. The walk to and from the Metro for Wednesday’s game was a especially helpful in reaching that goal, so I think it is clear that going to Nats games is good for your health. However, my personal fitness and Nats attendance is not where I am going with this post.

When I took a look at the packaging, I noticed that it was from a company headquartered in Hazleton, Penna. where I attended Penn State Hazleton for my first two years of college. Upon further inspection though, I noticed that it said, “Hazelton,” not “Hazleton.”

This is a really common occurrence, Penn State had a terrible time getting the spelling correct, which was/is a source of contention (and rightly so) from many on the that campus. So, between that, the recent comments by a PSU Hazleton alum and conversations with someone about the place, I got to thinking about a great Web site called, There is Something About Hazleton by a guy whose name has been redacted. We exchanged a few e-mails over the years and it looks like another one is coming up because the site is no where to be found! If you want to see that site, go to his Web page and demand the Hazleton page be brought back to life. MJC, RM, TWH, I am looking at you in particular…
