Nats tap Lannan for Opening Day start – nationals.com
American Hero LHP John Lannan has been tabbed to start the season for the Nationals when they visit the Marlins. Why Florida gets a true Opening Day ahead of Washington is beyond me.
Assuming the Nats use a four-man rotation, Lannan won’t get the home opener honor — that will go to the #3 starter. If they go with a five man rotation and they probably will not, the #2 starter will get the ball on April 13 in Nationals Park. Scott Olsen, I guess, but I would rather see Lannan get that privilige. I don’t even want to think of Daniel Cabrera getting the ball that day. Jordan Zimmermann might be nice, but he’ll probably be in Syracuse or #4 in the rotation.
I can only think of two times when a incumbent pitcher has gotten the home opener honor, if you count ¡LIVAN! in 2005.
