TALKING (D.C.) BASEBALL

The grandson of Senators great, Joe Judge makes the case for D.C. baseball in the Sunday Times. More good press for our cause.

Jack EvansEvans: Take N. Va. out of the ballgameWashington Business Journal

The D.C. Council point-man makes the case for D.C. over Northern Virginia and explains how he will push the stadium plan through. Go get ’em Jack! Thanks go to Ryan Moore sending this along to me.

So, I go away and nothing has really changed on the Expos front, other than some media reports of D.C. being the favorite now. I really hope it is becoming obvious to Bud Selig that it just makes so much sense for the Expos to make D.C. home. Also, if last week’s Orioles D.C. fanfest should comfort Peter Angelo$; if as many people as he claimed showed up, well, that goes to show that the O’s will not be abandoned should D.C. get the Expos. Both cities are worthy of MLB teams and can both prosper.

ONLY 12 DAYS UNTIL KICKOFF

Actually is technically less than 12 days, something like 11 days, 22 hours, etc. Once vacation is over, the fever really kicks in, we are almost ready! Time to wash all the jerseys and read up on the season in Town & Gown’s Football Annual. A belated thanks to Maryland Bureau Chief, Sam Basile for scoring me this year’s edition. Anyhow, here are some recent articles:

PSU LB Snow breaks right foot in practiceCDT

This is a shame, the LBs, though young, look like they could become really good. While he probably would not be starting, it appeared he was due for some playing time. Hopefully, he can use his recovery to get all the schemes up in his head.

Ron BrackenFor Phillips, the writing’s on his armCDT

Bracken takes a look at Anwar Phillips, who will be playing CB this season. He has a questionable past and probably ought to keep his nose really clean and play great football to overcome it in the public eye.

Austin Scott back to battle for starting tailback position

True sophomore Austin Scott is profiled. He should be a beast and barring injury, I would expect 1,000 yards out of him this fall. Look for lots of #33 jerseys being sold by the end of the season, if not sooner.

Mills, Robinson search for consistent help on offenseCDT

I think, if only be the theory that it could not be as bad as last season, that Zack and MRob will get some help. If Mills is healthy, he should resemble the player he was in the early 2002 season.

At 77, Paterno?s fire still burnsYDR

A good profile on Joe Paterno. Apparently, he is being much stricter on the players and spending more time on the team and not other events. Watch out.

The right man for the jobPost-Gazette

Longtime Penn State assistant made his biggest call as a coach — putting his duties at home ahead of his career.

Another Fran Ganter profile. Sounds like he would be willing to coach again in a few years. I would be a bit embarrassed if I were his son Ben though.,
