Bullpen implodes again – The Wash. Times
Shairon Martis gave up five runs early, but lasted six innings. Ron Villone held Pittsburgh scoreless for two and the Nats tied it in the ninth. Joe Beimel faltered in the tenth, giving up three runs. They proved to be the difference as the Nats found a way to lose after erasing a five run deficit.
Washington has scored at least five runs in the last ten games and have one win to show for it.

Detwiler’s First Start Earns Him a Second – The Post
Ross Detwiler was impressive enough to earn a second big leagues start. He will be on the hill against Baltimore on Saturday.
Elijah Dukes is on the DL having injured his hamstring.
Dick Heller: SI.com takes aim at a pair of D.C. owners – The Wash. Times
Heller notes the Sports Illustrated worst owners list. He notes that Mark Lerner actually runs the Nats day-to-day and ends with Matthew 19:30 (or a variation of it) — “Many that are first shall be last; and the last [or almost] shall be first.” This is also known as the Tampa Bay Rays model. Seriously though, the Nats could get good in a hurry with more low draft picks. A better bullpen would nice in the meantime.
