Cliff/Matthew/Ombudsman on Saturday night called me Saturday night from Foxwoods to inform me that the Phillies could clinch the 4th Cheesesteak/Half-Smoke Challenge with a sweep. I already knew that — the Nats dug themselves a 7-2 hole going into the weekend. Now, having lost all three to in Philadelphia, I owe him another Ben’s Half-Smoke all-the-way. He has yet to claim last year’s, having not visited Washington in some time. Frankly, I think having two half-smokes in the waiting would be enough enticement to visit D.C., but apparently he’ll blow his vacation on a trip to France or someplace stupid.

I think I will be surprised if Manny Acta is not fired this afternoon. The Nats are off tonight, before hosting the San Francisco Giants for a mid-week series. Will Jim Riggleman be the next Ed Tapscott?
