Jim Riggleman had his introductory press conference as interim manager of the Washington Nationals and Ted Lerner and his family were not there (I think) — another crisis in NatsTown!
Riggleman said that Manny Acta was doing the right things, that he’s a softie (great!) and he was glad Washington got a team to replace the Senators who grew up following in his native Rockville.

Players like Adam Dunn and Jason Bergmann are blaming themselves for Acta’s firing. Nick Johnson though, the last holdover from Montreal, was quoted as a saying “I mean, something had to happen. We’re getting our [butts] kicked every night.”

Boswell likes that Riggleman is as old as he is and went to Senators games at Griffith Stadium.
Right now, as far as I can determine, the only man now wearing a major league uniform — in any capacity, manager or coach — who grew up in the Washington area, attended games here as far back as Griffith Stadium and spent his childhood and youth loving the Senators is Jim Riggleman.
Okay, that’s a nice human interest story.
Dick Heller uses Gnats in his column, so he doesn’t get linked.
