Nats’ deadline moves likely will be minor – The Post
One Month Later, Deal With Pirates Looks Good – The Wash. Times
The trade deadline is at 4 p.m. today and thus far, the Nats have done nothing, frusturating more than a few fans. Nick Johnson, seemingly the Nats best commodity, has not been moved as teams needing a first baseman have gone out and acquired lesser talents. Is the Nats front office asking for too much? That was the knock on them during the Jim Bowden era. Interim GM Mike Rizzo has eight hours to get something done. Joe Beimel seems the most likely to be traded a this point.
Obviously, today could decided Rizzo’s future in D.C., though he surely will point to the Nyjer Morgan/Sean Burnett for Joel Hanrahan/Lastings Milledge trade in his defense. Morgan has tied a franchise record for most hits in a month with 40 and Burnett isn’t Hanrahan, a major plus. Milledge of course has the potential to be pretty good, but he’s been in AAA since entering the Pirates system. That is until today, in all likelihood, as his Pittsburgh debut is expected against his former club.
