Linebacker U. will miss Mike Mauti in 2009

Mike Mauti’s knee injury severe hit to Penn State’s linebacker depthPatriot-News
Penn State’s linebacker depth took a hit this weekend with Mike Mauti, a true sophomore, tore his ACL. He’s done for 2009. He had earned a lot of praise last spring and was challenging for a starting role, even called the “next Dan Connor“. Without the prank calls one would hope. Hopefully, he can come out of rehab, angry, focused and smarter.

Right now, Josh Hull, Navorro Bowman and Sean Lee look to the be the starters with Hull in the middle. Nate Stupar is also in the mix. I’m not crazy about Hull, though he improved over the course of the season.

Penn State and Pittsburgh football great Jack Ham picks the best linebackersPatriot-News
Jack Ham on Penn State linebackers over the years, excluding himself. I am surprised Brandon Short was omitted, but ultimately, I agree with Ham’s assessment of the greatest ever.
