Bullpen cruelly wastes solid ¡LIVAN! start as Cubs beat Nats 9-4

Hernández’s Return Ends With Nats LossThe Post

He’s back!

Liván Hernández, beloved member of the 2005 Washington Nationals, made a return to the mound with a curly W on his head for the first time in three years, twenty days. He was solid, going six innings, giving up two runs in the 3rd and putting his team in position to win. It was like he never left. At last we have our fat, junk-baller again! Who said D.C. fans don’t know how to appreciate baseball?

Then the bullpen came in and blew it all up. Jason Bergmann is credited with the loss, but Jorge Sosa, who gave up five runs, is the scapegoat, destoying the return of ¡LIVAN! — have you no decency sir?!

By the way, I believe ¡LIVAN! is in line to start in D.C. as a Washington player again on September 8 vs. the Phillies. I’m sure it will be a no-hitter.

Thoughts from Livo – Chatter, The Wash. Times
The big man says he’s happy to be back — right back at you #61! We love our round mound of…mound. Even if it goes bad, which is almost certainly will, at least that’s what Needham says.

With Hernandez, Nationals shuffle their rotationThe Wash. Times
On the off chance that the return of ¡LIVAN! was made for reasons other the reuniting Nats fans with their most beloved pitcher, this should help get the rotation through the last several weeks of the season. Many of the young pitchers are reaching their innings limit and will be shut down.

So, who next from the 2005 team? Brad Wilkerson maybe? He was the first Washington player to get a hit, leading off the season in Philly. Mike Stanton seems overdue to rejoin the team too.
