Late long balls sink Lannan – The Wash. Times
John Lannan was cruising for six innings and the Nationals led the Phillies 2-1. In the seventh, the bottom fell out and Lannan allowed three home runs. He finally got pulled after 6 2/3 innings, but the damage was done.
Washington struck back though, getting a run in the seventh off of Pedro Martinez. In the ninth, they had a chance to win it, loading the bases against Brad Lidge, who was pulled with Ryan Zimmerman and Adam Dunn coming up. Zimmerman could not repeat his Mr. Walkoff magic though as he struck out on three Ryan Madson pitches. Dunn fell behind 0-2 and grounded out to end the game. Final score 5-3, Philadelphia.
