JOE QUEENAN – Keep Your Team Out of My Book – The Times
I could tell from the headline who wrote the article above.
Queenan won’t read novels that involve New York Yankees, Dallas Cowboys, Los Angeles Lakers or Duke fans. That’s fine and I see his point about frontrunning — he wrote a chapter in his book True Believers about those who sail on the good ship Fairweather, but…
in the same book he wrote about being a Notre Dame fan. His rationale — being Irish Catholic. However, his latest book, Closing Time, seems to be about how much he hated being Irish Catholic. So, Mr. Queenan, who are you to criticize? Since I haven’t read Closing Time yet, maybe it needs to be “who am I to criticize?” as well.

I didn’t ask him if it was okay to change NFL teams. I didn’t ask him if his answer would be different if I said I had abandoned the Cowboys. I also didn’t tell him I was a Yankees fan, though even he’d probably be okay with it.
