MORELLI SPEAKS
Morelli ready to step under center – CDT
The most popular player on the Penn State team, the second string quarterback, finally gets a chance to speak to the media. This year’s model is Anthony Morelli, the highly touted recruit from Western Pennsylvania who spurned Pitt to come to PSU after the Chad Henne fiasco.
Last year, Morelli got to play in four games and threw 13 passes. Even Joe Paterno feels as though he burned Morelli’s redshirt. For his part, Morelli thinks he was ready to play last year, as well as right now, but I am not so sure. My gut says Morelli is a bit overconfident of his abilities and has a few yes-men (especially his father, who gets quoted a lot) feeding his ego a little too much. I think he can get there if he learns the playbook well, something many have speculated he had not done last season. Ideally, he will see a lot of action this season, because the Lions are already up by 4 touchdowns at halftime.
Mature Scott could help Nitanny Lions – Tribune-Review
Entering his junior year, RB Austin Scott claims to have grown up since coming to Penn State. Last year, he spent a lot of time in Joe Paterno’s doghouse after missing meetings and a lackadaisical attitude. He had only 55 carries for 312 yards after a freshman season in which he had 100 carries and lead the lions with 436 yards. Scott has also dropped his weight 15 – 20 lbs, which should help his speed.
The one thing that appears to be holding Scott back is his ankle, which he broke during the spring. He says it is at 85%.
The Post-Gazette now has the press conference transcript available.
