LANDOVER, Md. — Friday night, Erica, Fritz, Sam and I went to see the Steelers vs. Redskins game. We all know that the Redskins won, 17 – 10 (The Post) which means that about 50% of Redskins fans are now looking forward to playing in February. I have posted a photo gallery too.
Some other thoughts on the game:
As expected, there were thousands of Steelers fans in attendance. Overall, the stadium was surprisingly full for a preseason game with over 70,000 in attendance.
The atmosphere at FedEx Field has improved significantly since our last visit in December 2002. There is not as much (really loud) music being pumped through the speakers, the “it’s THIRD down” announcement is no longer used and the Redskins band plays more.
The concourses are about 400% wider than the ones at RFK, yet it is still hard to get around because of people standing around/moving slowly.
Beers cost $7, which is more than RFK or MCI Center.
When you can find a stand that sells them, the $9 chicken fingers basket is a decent way to go because of the enormous quantity included. Points off for not having barbecue sauce though. Erica did not think too highly of the honey mustard either.
It was weird being in a stadium with a p.a. system you could understand.
The walk from Morgan Blvd. Metro to FedEx Field is pretty long, but manageable, especially compared to paying $25 to park a car that is probably only slightly closer.
As we were walking up the ramp to our seats, I spied Robb Spiewak of the Don & Mike Show. I don’t think he appreciated it when I called out his name.
I wound up wearing the Tampa Bay Bucs jersey to the game.
