Penn State 34 NORTHWESTERN 29

Whew! The Lions were ahead for no more than five minutes of the game. Thankfully, that included the final :51 so all was well in the end.

UNCLE JED’S

BETHESDA, Md. — I took in the game at Uncle Jed’s in Bethesda. Fritz was hosting on behalf of the alumni chapter.

The venue was great for watching the game. The wings were quite good, but the beer was a little skunked. One highlight was a table full of Blue Band alums, who sang the touchdown/extra point routine after every PSU score. Good job guys!

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE GAME

Once again, despite being very shakey at times, I have to name Mike Robinson OPOTG. He was the most important player on the field, for good or ill. I think he has just about a 1 to 1 touchdown to turnover ratio though.

3 TD passes, 1 TD run, 3 INTs, 1 lost fumble.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE GAME

Paul Posluzny — 22 tackles, 14 solo. Wow.

WILBON ON THE GAME

In his regular Monday chat, Post columnist Michael Wilbon lamented his alma mater’s loss to PSU.

Montgomery Village, Md.: Michael: Did you see any of the heartbreaking loss by your alma mater on Saturday? What a disappointing ending for the Wildcats. At one point the cameras panned the stadium and the pressbox which has a name other than yours on it. What’s with that? You are clearly the most famous sports journalist grad of NU!

Michael Wilbon: First of all, that would be wrong. There are a whole lot of alums in this business with a higher profile than little ol’ me. Let’s start with one of my mentors, Brent Musburger…That’s pretty good, huh? Yes, I saw the game. I was AT THE GAME. It was my 25th reunion weekend, and I was ticked off about losing a game we led for so long, and at times by double-digits…I’m still in a bad mood over it. That’s two weeks straight for me…I was out at the NU-Arizona State game the week before that…We got pounded there, and lost close, at the end, to Joe Pa and the Nittany Lions but we should have won that game at home. I’ll be okay by Wednesday.

Who knew Wilbon (anyone for that matter) lived and died with Northwestern. A rare public defense of Brent Musberger too.

THAT’S ALL FOLKS

Sorry I don’t have more time, but double digit workdays cut into other stuff. I should have the WWN PENN STATE PREGAME #5 up on Friday night, if not sooner.
