Time to gloat, Sam…Icers shock Div. I squad – The Collegian
Penn State’s club hockey team defeated Robert Morris, a Division I program. This is great for the club, which dominates the ACHA annually. It also gives Maryland Bureau Chief Sam Basile bragging rights over his brother Michael, a “Bobby Mo” alumnus.
The Icers really need to move to D-I. Contrary to popular belief, they are not being held back by Title IX, but by lack of a suitable arena. They currently play in Greenberg Ice pavilion, which seats about 1,200. They want to build a 6,000 seat arena which would cost about $30 million. If they got a good lead gift, $3-5 million, plans would probably begin in earnest. That is what got the new ballpark going. Speaking of the new ballpark…

N.J. baseball team relocates to State College – The Collegian
Last week it was announced that the New York-Penn League’s Class A New Jersey Cardinals are planning to relocate to State College to play at the new Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. The New York-Penn League plays a 76 game schedule.
