OMBUDSMAN WEIGHS IN

There was some controversy on Saturday over WWN news judgment. This is precisely why WWN has an ombudsman. Here is what he had to say:

While the entire WWN family considers your input valuable as to what
would constitute a better web page, we must respectfully label your
most recent communiqué as inane drivel. I present some reasons as
to why.

1) WWN considers itself on the cutting edge regarding news events
occurring in the PSU/Nationals/Yale/Media/D.C./Transportation
field. Since you are probably aware of the 68 other major web logs
covering these topics in conjunction, it is important that we cover
all relevant breaking news lest we find ourselves suddenly without
the reader support that makes WWN possible. Post-season Washington
Nationals ballpark politics is a necessary part of the daily
repertoire. I am informed that copy was indeed halted in order to
make room for this immediate news item.

2) Referring to your text, there is no need for a comma after the
mention of The Pennsylvania State UniversityÂ?s admirable record.
Conversely, the comma after the Editor-in-ChiefÂ?s name should be a
semicolon. Your first sentence was not a question, and therefore
needs no question mark. Finally, galore is spelled with an Â?eÂ?.
Please edit you letters if you wish to be taken seriously.

3) The OmbudsmanÂ?s office is awash with pressing matters. Surely
youÂ?re aware of the recent scandal by the WWN research division
involving the unethical treatment of human test subjects.
Additionally, there is the seemingly impossible fact that out
sports reporters seem to suffer a loss of objectivity during the
attendance of sporting events. IÂ?m afraid we do not have time to
cover your matter in more detail.

4) Finally, The Pennsylvania State University Football team plays a
game but once a week. Good Christ, how much can you read on one
game?

Sincerely,
M. Clifford, B.Sc.
