Some fellow Penn State alums and I have a bet (and blog) based on head to head NHL competition between our favorite teams. Now that PSU football is over, we can start disagreeing with each other again, and hockey provides the perfect sport for that since pretty much all have our own teams. The La Coupe Hauxer manifesto:
A battle for hockey bragging rights through head to head competition between each of our favorite teams – Devils (Brad), Flyers (Wiley), Penguins (Sam/Jake), and Capitals (Fritz/William). The winner(s) gets the historic La Coupe Hauxer and the universal currency of respect/admiration. The loser(s) gets the Stanley Screwdriver, the universal currency of humiliation and has to buy everyone dinner at the Vienna Inn. Game on!
So, there you have it. It’s time to get the trash talk going full speed.
I think the name we came up with is uniquely elegant for such a undertaking as it celebrates the bilingual nature of hockey’s native land.
