Nats: I’m drinking the Boswell Kool-Aid

While today’s Thomas Boswell column (The Post) about oversells the wealth of pitching the Washington Nationals will soon have, I find myself nodding in agreement for the most part. He is basically making the same point I did on Monday that between (in no particular order) Craig Stammen, Luis Atilano, J.D. Martin., Livan Hernandez, Chien-Ming Wang, Scott Olsen, Jason Marquis and John Lannan, there are 3 guys who can fill out the staff in the spots behind Stephen Strasburg and Jordan Zimmermann. Having a league average or better rotation seems assured, so the Nats ought not waste it by trading away Adam Dunn for prospects. I’m not saying this because he hit 3 home runs last night (though he did and it was great, especially since they needed every one them), but because he’s a good option. Bos explains why in the second question of his chat today. Josh Willingham is in his prime and has a year left of club control too. 3B Ryan Zimmerman has 3 years left on his contract after this year and he seems to be saying “sign these guys if you want me to stick around after that” as well.

So, Nats keep the middle of the order together and see what happens. The farm isn’t going to have much a harvest for a while, so this is how things have to happen. Pick up a better second baseman too.

As for the Bos Kool-Aid, its the king that’s so full of sugar that its grainy when you drink it. Old School members of the New Sci-Fi Club know what I’m talking about here.
