Metro area is nation’s best educated – WTOP
Beltway Brainiacs – DC Area Best-Educated In The Nation – WUSA
The Washington D.C. area has the highest rate of bachelor’s degrees amongst the top 100 U.S. urban areas, according to the Brookings Institution. Left unsaid, in any of the stories I have seen about read about it, is the lack of an industrial base past, present and future in the area. The steel mills, factories, refineries, shipping, etc. that every other city on the Northeast corridor has/had are/were never here. Those industries, which provided middle class jobs that did not require a college education were never here, so in order to be middle class or higher, you needed to go to college. I think this is worth mentioning.
Actually, The Post story on the subject does mention that the area is not industrial, but only late in the story after the jump.
