Nationals Drop Their Opener – The Post
The Nats continued to do one of the things they did really well last year — strand the baserunners who don’t bother to get thrown out. Yes, the home plate ump (The Post) did blow the call on Alfonso Soriano’s slide into the plate (The Wash. Times); might try feet first next time, Alf, but you can’t put this one on the umpires. The Nats need to take advantage of at least some of the opportunities they get. Nonetheless, it was a pretty exciting game (from what I could tell; I was not giving it my undivided attention) and most importantly, it was year two for the team that has WASHINGTON across their jerseys. How long will this honeymoon last with me?
¡LIVAN! pitched fairly well (The Post), but probably ought not take off on any hit and runs again.
We will just have to settle for 161-1.

THOMAS BOSWELL – Taking a Different Kind of Dive – The Post
Bos makes the case of why Soriano is so desirable, but I remain unmoved. Bos also explains why he slid head first, as does Dick Heller of The Wash. Times.
Let’s all cry a harbor for poor, wittle Peter Angelo$, who did not get his team on D.C. television yesterday. Such injustice in the world.
UPDATE: Jim Williams: We still want our Nats TV – The Wash. Examiner
Williams applauds the bi-partisan effort to get to MASN and Comcast to play ball by holding a hearing of House Committee on Government Reform on the subject. Williams also wants the D.C. council and mayor to get involved.
