I don’t think this game was as close as the score indicated. I think if Alabama had stayed with the run more, they would have put even more points on the board. I think they were throwing to get that facet of their offense going more than anything.<\/p>\n
More discouraging than anything else is the poor tackling by the Penn State defense. After seeing how they did against Youngstown State, I am not shocked. I can’t recall the last time the Nittany Lions defense was this bad at tackling.<\/p>\n
I am more confident that the red zone turnovers can be corrected than the bad tackling which is a matter of will more than skill.<\/p>\n
Rob Bolden<\/strong> continues to impress me with his poise. He made a few bad throws and was wearing down in the second half. I’m glad he got to be there when Penn State got the field goal though. He had no help though. The pass over the middle to Graham Zug<\/strong> was a beauty, but Zug dropped it.<\/p>\n Zug has disappeared. Overall, the wideouts have regressed. though Derek Moye<\/strong> had a few nice catches and made a big play by forcing a fumble after a Penn State turnover. He was just about the only regular starter playing well.<\/p>\n RB Silas Redd<\/strong> looked good in limited duty. I am very curious to see him perform as the season progresses, but I have a feeling he will be a feature back sooner than later. A positive — the kickoff returns were solid with Penn State starting at about the 24 yard line every time.<\/p>\n Did Joe Paterno’s undistinguished feeling that the Nittany Lions were completely out-manned filter down to the players?
