In all, we used it about ten times and tried several recipes. This one, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.food.com\/recipe\/whole-chicken-crock-pot-recipe-33671\">Crock Pot Chicken<\/a>, comes is based on one from food.com. @<a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/scrappled\">scrappled<\/a> who also blogs about Penn State\/Big Ten football, beer and music at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slowstates.com\/\">Slow States<\/a>, was the one who made me aware of it.<\/p>\n<p># 4 teaspoons salt<br \/>\n# 2 teaspoons paprika<br \/>\n# 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper<br \/>\n# 1 teaspoon onion powder<br \/>\n# 1 teaspoon thyme<br \/>\n# 1 teaspoon white pepper<br \/>\n# 1\/2 teaspoon garlic powder<br \/>\n# 1\/2 teaspoon Lawry&#8217;s seasoned pepper (recipe called for black)<br \/>\n# 1 large roasting chicken (with pop-up timer if possible)<br \/>\n# 2 cup chopped onion (recipe called for an 1 onion and listed it as optional)<br \/>\n# Approximately 1 tbsp of poultry seasoning (not in the recipe and probably redundant)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/wfyurasko\/5238335957\/\" title=\"PC051213 by wfyurasko, on Flickr\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5001\/5238335957_f00a786597.jpg?resize=500%2C375\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" alt=\"PC051213\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Erica combined the spices in a bowl and per @scrappled&#8217;s advice, rubbed it under the chicken skin and ontop of it. The onions were diced and put in the bottom of the crock pot.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/wfyurasko\/5238934436\/\" title=\"PC051217 by wfyurasko, on Flickr\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5284\/5238934436_1f44739fef.jpg?resize=500%2C375\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" alt=\"The chicken in the crock pot\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>6-8 hours later&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/wfyurasko\/5238339145\/\" title=\"PC051218 by wfyurasko, on Flickr\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5086\/5238339145_ff9febfdf5.jpg?resize=500%2C375\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" alt=\"The finished product\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The chicken was juicy as advertised, but I think we erred by having the extra onion; Erica did not. We served it with mashed potatoes, because I love them, and seemed to get 3 or 4 meals out of it.
