Vidro Gets the Green Light<\/b><\/a> – The Post<\/i>
Yesterday afternoon, 2B Carlos Baerga<\/strike> Jose Vidro<\/b> won a see-saw game for the Nationals with a two-run single in the bottom of the 9th, clinching the series victory over the NL Central leading St. Louis Cardinals. Final score 7-6<\/span>.<\/p>\n

The game saw the return of Mike O’Connor<\/span> to the rotation. The GWU product pitched five innings of scoreless ball. The bullpen later coughed up 1-0 and 5-3 leads, but a pitching meltdown (2 walks, one hit batter) in the 9th by St. Louis closer Jason Isringhausen<\/span> put Vidro in the unlikely position of hero. The slumping second basebman had gone over a month between RBIs.<\/p>\n

Preston Wilson<\/span> nearly ruined the whole afternoon (much like the second half of last season, though that is Jim Bowden<\/span>‘s fault more this his) by hitting a homer to put the Cards up 6-5 in the ninth. It wound up being another blown save for closer Chad Cordero<\/span> who did get the win. He is now 7-4! That is almost Lee Gutterman<\/span>-esque.<\/p>\n
