It is official, former Reds GM Jim Bowden<\/strong> (who is not actually related to Florida State football coach and inadvertent Southern caricature, Bobby Bowden<\/strong>) is the interim GM. He wants to keep manager Frank Robinson<\/strong> (“he did a decent job”) around which is a good move. I figure that assuming he re-ups, Robbie will be around for this season, maybe next and that is it. Bowden’s record in Cincy: 10 years, playoffs once, wild card play-in once. Not too stellar, but he did have a small payroll. The knock on him is that he is too trigger happy. We don’t need trades, we need a farm system (and ballpark funding). All in all, it is nice we can second guess personal moves of our own team because after all, isn’t that what it is all about?

The inevitable changes to the ballpark (for godsakes, call it a ballpark, not stadium!) funding proposal will increase the gross receipts tax for larger business and set aside money for a community fund. Some business leaders are not thrilled by it, according to The Wash. Times<\/em>: Stadium bill revised by District<\/b><\/a>, but I do not see that being a sticking point. They will rethink asking to be taxed again for anything, no doubt.<\/p>\n
