That’s what Joe Paterno<\/span> said about Penn State’s performance on Saturday. It works for a lot of reasons, namely that the Lions’ defense scored more red zone points (9) than the offense (7). Normally, that means you lose, but when you play Illinois you can get away with it. For now.<\/p>\n

More thoughts:<\/p>\n

  • Welcome back to MLB Paul Posluszny<\/span> who played his best game of the year with 13 tackles and a forced fumble, which was returned for a touchdown.\n
  • OLB Dan Connor<\/span> also had a monster game, getting about a dozen tackles and scoring a safety.\n
  • Anthony Scriotto<\/span> had two interceptions in the 3rd quarter, which is two more passes than Illinois caught in that period. He dropped another, but atoned for it by returning the onside free kick for a TD. The CDT picked a good day to make him the cover boy of the pregame wrap.\n
  • The sequence that included the safety and free kick TD was one of the oddest I have ever seen. The safety occurred on 4th and very long inside the ten. In the stands we wondered if they would have to punt or go for it. They went for it and gave up a safety. Then the had an onside free kick, something that had never occurred to me.\n
  • Justin King<\/span> may have made a game saving tackle in the third quarter when he ran down Rashard Mendenhall<\/span>, who had gone 79 yards. I missed the play (the only one I missed all day) and wondered if the quarter had changed when I saw Illinois on that side of the field.\n
  • The offensive line has seriously regressed in the last couple of weeks. I though they had come together fairly well before the Michigan game, but now they are awful.\n
  • An ugly win is still a win. They Lions need victories any way they can get them, because Purdue and Wisconsin will be tough on the road and you never know which Michigan State team will show up. 7-5 looks like a real possibility all of the sudden and sadly, 6-6 is possible too.
