Carpenter returning"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There has been a lot of coverage on Twitter, blogs and even the national media about Prince Fielder joining the Washington Nationals. I have thought it over and still conclude that he&#8217;s a DH with looming early on-set &#8220;old player skills.&#8221; Would he help the 2012 Nats? Yes, but anything longer than a 5 year deal could be really tough in later years. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/sports\/nationals\/prince-fielders-price-is-not-right-for-nationals-right-now\/2011\/12\/28\/gIQA5wZCNP_story.html\">Thomas Boswell agrees with me on Fielder<\/a> (<em>The Post<\/em>) which raises red flags.<\/p>\n<p>Also, if comes down to signing Ryan Zimmerman or Fielder (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/blogs\/nationals-journal\/post\/for-the-nationals-prince-fielder-or-ryan-zimmerman-is-only-a-choice-if-they-make-it-one\/2012\/01\/04\/gIQAo0KlcP_blog.html\">though there is not a good reason both couldn&#8217;t be signed<\/a> &#8211; Adam Kilgore, Nationals Journal, <em>The Post<\/em>), I&#8217;d take the former. Zimmerman is theoretically more flexible at more positions. Plus, sentimentality, that&#8217;s there, I&#8217;ll admit it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.natsinsider.com\/2012\/01\/time-for-nats-to-market-winning.html\">Should the Nats be marketing themselves?<\/a> (Mark Zuckerman, <em>Nats Insider<\/em>) Duh. They just don&#8217;t get it on that front. I guess the upside is tickets are easier for me to get.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.yurasko.net\/wfy\/2011\/01\/why-the-washington-nationals-need-a-winter-fanfest-in-2012.html\"> A winter fan fest<\/a> would be nice though.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/washington.nationals.mlb.com\/news\/article.jsp?ymd=20120105&#038;content_id=26267232&#038;vkey=news_was&#038;c_id=was\">Bob Carpenter is returning to MASN for the 2012 season<\/a> (Bill Ladson, <em>nationals.com<\/em>). I&#8217;m kind of ambivalent about Carpenter. I like his &#8220;there it goes!&#8221; homer call, but that&#8217;s it. Some fans really dislike him.<\/p>\n<p>So much for my &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.yurasko.net\/wfy\/2011\/10\/nats-have-we-heard-the-last-of-charlie-and-dave-together.html\">is Dave Jageler auditioning for Carpenter&#8217;s job<\/a>?&#8221; theory.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/blogs\/reliable-source\/post\/love-etc-john-lannan-nationals-pitcher-weds-maryanne-garry\/2012\/01\/05\/gIQAlom6cP_blog.html\">John Lannan got married<\/a> (The Reliable Source, <em>The Post<\/em>), most of the team was there.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There has been a lot of coverage on Twitter, blogs and even the national media about Prince Fielder joining the Washington Nationals.
