The Caps took the season series 3-1. The last time, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/blogs\/capitals-insider\/post\/bostons-tim-thomas-is-matt-hendricks-latest-shootout-victim\/2012\/03\/29\/gIQAvNbHkS_blog.html\">they (especially Matt Hendricks) made Bruins goalie Tim Thomas<\/a> (Capitals Insider, <em>The Post<\/em>) look really bad in the shootout. Of course, that isn&#8217;t in play in the postseason, nothing but overtime until sudden death.<\/p>\n<p>The Bruins are the defending Stanley Cup champion, their first since Bobby Orr was around. Here are my keys to the series:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li type=\"square\"><strong>The Caps ought to bring out the throwblacks<\/strong> &#8212; For home games, switch to the black jerseys with the Capital dome to agitate Thomas. He&#8217;s not really big on the federal government and in particular&#8230;<\/li>\n<li type=\"square\"><strong>Get President Obama to attend the Verizon Center game<\/strong>s &mdash; Half of the Caps fans are thinking the same thing on this one. That might rattle Timmy a bit, right?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Oh a serious ideas? Um, second line scoring would be <em>nice<\/em>. <strong>Alex Ovechkin<\/strong> vs. <strong>Zdeno Ch\u00e1ra<\/strong> (6&#8242; 9&#8243;) is the main event of the series. Nobody challenges Ovechkin more than him and he will have a tough time meeting his historical playoff scoring rate. Now, if <strong>Nicklas B\u00e4ckstr\u00f6m<\/strong>  is on the second line and able to make some things happen, the Caps have a better shot.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/website_3c1e0e40\/Capitals%20turn%20to%20a%20confident%20Braden%20Holtby%20in%20net%20against%20Bruins,%20with%20Neuvirth%20and%20Vokoun%20injured\">Having only one healthy goalie, Braden Holtby<\/a> (<em>The Post<\/em>), a third-stringer doesn&#8217;t exactly inspire confidence either.<\/p>\n<p>Honestly, I can&#8217;t predict the Caps to win a playoff series, they lose in the first round too often. At least if they get to raise a banner next Opening Night, they&#8217;ll have to have won the conference because they lost the division to the Florida Panthers &mdash; a sun belt team winning their division with fewer wins than the runner up, but more points virtue of overtime losses (Gary Bettman&#8217;s dream?).<\/p>\n<p><em>Bruins in six<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Also, DC Sports Bog had some great stuff about Caps TV color commentator <strong>Craig Laughlin<\/strong> stuff the other week:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/blogs\/dc-sports-bog\/post\/craig-laughlin-his-accent-his-phrases-his-sharpies\/2012\/04\/02\/gIQAjr2yqS_blog.html\">Craig Laughlin, his accent, his phrases, his Sharpies<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/blogs\/dc-sports-bog\/post\/craig-laughlins-game-notes\/2012\/04\/03\/gIQAx5Z2sS_blog.html\">Craig Laughlin\u2019s game notes<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tonight, the (7) Washington Capitals face the (2) Boston Bruins in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals.
