Carroll H. Cook<\/span> (’54 Pitt) recently finished up his chats for the 2006 season. Below are his responses from the last two Wenesday discussions.<\/p>\n

charlie (alaska):<\/span> what coach has the most to prove next year<\/p>\n

SportsNation Beano Cook:<\/span> (3:26 PM ET ) The way that Michigan fans complain, Lloyd Carr has to satisfy them every year. Alabama fans won’t be patient so Nick Saban has something to prove. Karl Dorrell at UCLA is one under the gun. Tyrone Willingham has to continue to show improvement. Bobby Bowden now that the Seminoles have made some changes to the coaching staff will have increased expectations again. A prediction here…Paterno within two years will catch and pass Bowden in career wins.<\/p>\n

SportsNation Beano Cook:<\/span> (3:27 PM ET ) Paterno will be facing easier schedules than Bowden.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

BEANO CURSE ALERT!!!!<\/p>\n

Clearly Beano was taking a shot at Penn State with this backhanded compliment; sadly he is correct about the schedule. Of course, Bowden had an easy ride with Howard\/Samford, so it evens out. The Michigan fans comment is quite astute, no?<\/p>\n

Cory(PA):<\/span> Would you consider saying that next season Anthony Morelli is a top-10 QB?<\/p>\n

SportsNation Beano Cook:<\/span> (3:30 PM ET ) I would say Penn State is going to be awful good and the answer will depend on how Morelli plays. I feel Penn State and Michigan will fight it out for the Big Ten.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Morelli might be a top-10 QB in the Big11Ten, but probably not the nation. My Morelli prediction is no better than 2nd team, Big11Ten.<\/p>\n

eric (wi):<\/span> what about wisconsin in the big ten?<\/p>\n

SportsNation Beano Cook:<\/span> (3:34 PM ET ) Pj Hill is back, I like what Bieliema did this season. Wisconsin has to play at Penn State.<\/p>\n

SportsNation Beano Cook:<\/span> (3:35 PM ET ) I don’t see the Big Ten guys coming after me.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Did Beano really say anything here? No. What? Even less than usual…<\/p>\n


Kenton (Indianapolis, IN):<\/span> Beano, What do you make of Penn St. beating Tennessee and Wisconsin beating Arkansas? Can we say that the SEC might be a bit overrated and the Big Ten a bit underrated?<\/p>\n

SportsNation Beano Cook:<\/span> No. Those were good victories for the Big Ten, but the last time I looked the conference was 2-4 in bowl games. I don’t just judge a conference by one season. I feel strongly that overall from top to bottom the Big Ten is as strong as the SEC.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

It is really hard for me to get worked up about conference ratings and I am pretty ambivilant about the SEC.<\/p>\n
